Citizens concerned about how our elected officials will help Minnesota face aging got a chance to hear from legislative candidates at nine forums held throughout the state this past month.
More than 50 legislative candidates took part in the forums, which were attended by members of the public and the media and hosted at local senior care facilities.
One of the forums was held at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, where Katie Davis is the Campus Administrator. Here’s what she had to say about the candidates who participated in the forum:
“We need our legislators to be the voice for seniors and senior care workers in St. Paul. It’s important our representatives and senators hear what we have to say, understand our concerns, and work to ensure that all seniors have access to the support they need to keep them living as independently as possible.”
Adult Day Services in Bemidji was the site of a candidate forum, too. Denise Smid, RN Director of Care, expressed appreciation for candidate forum participants’ recognition of the growing need for a range senior care options:
“All Minnesota seniors should live as independently as possible with the support they need for as long as they are able. Our legislators understand that our state’s Elderly Waiver program must be reformed so that community care options are more accessible to low-income seniors. This is best for seniors, their families and our communities.”
